Jishin Balpgi Lunar New Year Street Festival
Its origins can be traced back to one of many collective village activities symbolizing the ritual cleansing of the village and chasing away of evil spirits. The duration of the event itself is a period for renewing personal ties and fostering a greater sense of community among the villagers.

Since 1995, Il Kwa Nori has visited shops, schools, community centers and other local establishments to celebrate the New Year.

This year, Il Kwa Nori performed at Conway Center of the Columbia College in celebration of Lunar New Year on the 8th of February.

The Field Museum: Cultural Connections
In 2004, the Center partnered with the Swedish American Museum Center to present differences and similarities between Korean and Swedish marriage ceremonies and wedding conventions.

In 2006, the Center showcased Korean fashion styles and costumes under the theme of “Dressed for the Part” in collaboration with the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture. The program included a display and discussion of what in our cultures have shaped our fashion trends and self-image.

In 2007, the Center teamed up with the Indo American Center to present different customs related to teaching. Using yoga from India and poongmul from Korea, the event illustrated how yoga and poongmul are traditionally taught and what those teaching principles imply for today’s education.
